This picture was taken about a month ago. Montana is a collie/shepard. She is fantastic with the kids, and a great friend to us all. When Kevin was home in July, she bit him in the ass. Now at the time he was wrestling with Scott, and to tell the truth I thought it was kind of neat, that it showed how protective of her family she is.
Yesterday a neighbour came over to see what we have been doing with our new living room. She had just come in the front door, and stopped to admire the new wood flooring. She moved her foot slightly back and forth on it, and Montana jumped and bit her on the thigh. I was horrified. After talking half the night about it with Steve, we decided we had to have her put down. We just couldn't take the chance that she might bite again.
I called the vet today on the off chance they might know of someone looking for a dog like her. She told me that it would not be wise to find her a new home, and even the SPCA wouldn't be able to try. A dog that has been known to bite is too much of a risk.
We came to the decision to have her put to sleep. It has been a day filled with tears for all of us. Poor Steve, my big strong husband took on the responsibility of taking her in. I just couldn't go. Now I regret not being there to say goodbye to her.
Goodbye Montana, we loved having you as our dog.

Oh Tigg......I am so sorry about your dog. How heartbreaking. You are right, you can't have a dog that bites, but what an awful decision to have to make.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
{{Tigg}} I am so sorry for all of you. If it helps any, we had to have one of our cats put down, a number of years ago, for a similar reason. Then, another cat, right after we adopted him, because of illness...and a 3rd cat, who we found living in our 'garage', right after we moved here---that cat was sick as well.
No matter how much you know it's what you have to do, it still seriously hurts. My thoughts are with you all tonight, and in the days to come.
((Tigg & family)) No matter how much you know it is the right thing to do, it doesn't make it any easier. Thinking of all of you.....
(((((Hugs)))))I know it hurts, but it is the right choice. You don't want to take the chance that she may bite someone, especially a child. It is still a very hard thing to do. (((((Hugs again)))))
(((((Tigg and family))))) We've had to put down dogs and cats and the occassional cow. It's so hard when they are a family member. I feel for you and your family. Even though it may have been the right thing to do, it still hurts. (((((Hugs)))))
(((Laura & family))) I know it's hard but it was the right thing to do.
{{{Tigg}}} I'm so sorry.
((((Tigg and Family)))) I'm so sorry for the loss of a great family member.
